Some details about the soldier:
-I decided to design the chest armor in three parts, due to a special feature of the soldier's animation system. When the player turns right or left, the soldier starts turning the spine (this is implemented by code). Then, at a certain point, the model plays turn left/right animation. I really don't like to see those heavy armors bending.
-The LOD meshes were automatically generated. There's an excellent article where you can see and learn the process of creating LODs for skinning meshes here (C4 engine oriented).
-The tools used were 3DS Max 9 and Photoshop CS2.
-The animations were created with biped.
-I made a small test model for testing purposes for the armor. You can check the tutorial here.
-The in-game look pictures correspond to the C4 engine's tools: World editor and Model editor.

Some details about the spider model:
-This is not a skinned model. The model was split into pieces which were directly animated.
-The texture maps were hand crafted (displacement map included). You can see how I created the hair in this tutorial.
-The LOD meshes were manually created.
 
You can see the spider model in action in the demo of the C4 engine. You have to play the cemetery demo level.
