TUTORIAL: Creating the hair for the spider model. |
|
This tutorial shows how I used the scatter compound object from 3DS Max to create the spider's hair look. |
First we create a cone object and apply a bend modifier to it. This is a simple hair. |
| |
 |
| |
A plane which will be the distribution object. The plane needs to be subdivided. |
| |
 |
| |
With the cone object selected, we create a scatter object (Geometry pannel->Compound Objects->Scatter). As you can see, the cone object has been moved over the plane. |
| |
 |
| |
Now, we need to modify the values of the scatter object to achieve the results needed. You can view the values of the next image by clicking on it. |

Now we are going to apply and adjust a simple gradient to our scatter object. White color should cover the upper zone and black color the lower zone of the object. |
| |
 |
| |
Applying the gradient like this we get the height information for a displacement map. Notice that you can use this technique for other displacement maps you want to create. |

The render of the top view. I used this render within photoshop to cover the spider's body. In addition, I used this render as ambient occlusion in the spider's color map. |
